The Calm Before...
A forbidden fruit is offered and a hero is lured into a maze of subconscious mythology. The human body provides the map and the canvas for this creation, where movement brings messages that both disturb and seduce. The Calm Before... investigates the fear, fight and success of the human condition in the face of unpredictable darkness.
Building on the hyper-kinetic and theatrical content of prior works that The Chimera Project is known for, Malgorzata Nowacka's The Calm Before… blurs the lines between theatre, urban and contemporary dance. The furious movement draws on urban and contemporary dance, echoing the multifaceted nature of our society.
The Calm Before... features some of Toronto's most exciting dance artists: Anisa Tejpar, Tyler Gledhill, Brendan Wyatt, Lee (Lethal) Pham, Malgorzata Nowacka and film innovator Jacob Niedzwiecki, premiering as part of Harbourfront Centre's NextSteps 2011/2012 Season.
