Steve Lucas
Lighting Design

In his 20 year career, Steve has designed sets and lighting for more than 200 productions of theatre, dance and performance art. Though based in Toronto, his work has been seen in venues throughout Canada and the United States as well as London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Lyon, Brussels, Stockholm, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Estonia, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Australia.

Steve's work in theatre has mainly been focused on new and original plays; he has designed the world premieres of many shows, several of which have gone on to further acclaim. These include: 2 PIANOS 4 HANDS, NEVER SWIM ALONE, SEE BOB RUN, TIME AFTER TIME: THE CHET BAKER PROJECT, THE WALLS OF AFRICA, REVOLUTIONS IN THERAPY and THE DRAWER BOY.

Steve's work in dance includes collaborations with choreographers and companies like Christopher House, Peter Chin, Malgorzata Nowacka, Peggy Baker, Kate Alton, Mark Lonergan, Toronto Dance Theatre, The Chimera Project, Red Sky Performance and The Guangdong Modern Dance Company of China.

Steve is the artistic director of Theatre 2.0 with which he has conceived and directed several shows including the award winning BREATH[e] which has played to sold out houses in Toronto, the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, England and the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, as well as performances for the SHADOW BALL at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

He is also the Co-artistic director of Rat-A-Tat-Tat with which he commissioned, produced, designed and directed the world premiere of TEQUILA VAMPIRE MATINEE, the 2004 Dora Mavor Moore Award winner for Best New Musical.

Steve has been fortunate enough to have received four Dora Mavor Awards for his set and lighting designs. He has also been nominated for several of Canada's most prestigious awards including the Simonvitch Prize in Theatre, the Pauline Mc Gibbon award, the K.M. Hunter award and twenty nine Dora Mavor Moore Award nominations.
