"one of Toronto Dance Theatre's most admired company members" (The Globe and Mail), Louis Laberge-Côté is known for his "outstanding interpretation[s]" (CHYZ 94,3), his "masterful physical control" (Paula Citron), his "wit and elegance" (NOW Magazine), his "refreshing spontaneity" (National Post), and "his ability to infuse even ordinary movements with drama" (Toronto Star).
As a child, studied jazz dancing, theatre, and music (piano, violin, trumpet, singing).
As a teenager, performed in more than 150 shows over 4 years in Canada, France, and Switzerland. Choreographed 15 short works for different non-professional dance companies.
Graduate of the L'école de Danse de Québec.
Graduate of The School of Toronto Dance Theatre as a scholarship student
of the Québec FCAR Fund.
Won the Jury Award, the Audience Award, and the Competitors Award for Outstanding Performance of his own choreography Je suis malade at the Québec Provincial Dance Festival Encore 96.
1999 - now : Toronto Dance Theatre. Performed works by Artistic Director Christopher House and guest choreographers Kate Alton, Valerie Calam, Peter Chin, Kim Frank, D.A. Hoskins, Sasha Ivanochko, Sharon Moore, Matjash Mrozewski, Yvonne Ng, and Sara Porter.
Nominated for a Dora Award for Outstanding Performance as an Ensemble with TDT in Christopher House's Severe Clear (2001).
Appeared with companies: CORPUS, the Danny Grossman Dance Company, DNA Theatre, Fougère Dance, and the Newton Moraes Dance Theatre.
As independent dancer: Toured North America, Europe, and Asia. Has worked with choreographers Serge Bennathan, Nova Bhattacharya, Darcey Callison, Peter Chin, Natasha Gascho, Maxine Heppner, Sasha Ivanochko, Allen Keaja, Hiroshi Miyamoto, Sharon Moore, Shawn Newman, Keiko Ninomiya, Lincoln Shand, Holly Small, Santee Smith, Heidi Strauss, Darryl Tracy, Michael Trent, and Marvin Vergara.
Taught for numerous schools and studios across the country.
His choreographic works have been presented at the Toronto Dance Theatre, fFIDA, TIDF, Dusk Dances, the made in Canada/fait au Canada Festival, The DanceOntario Week-End, the KalaNhidi Festival, the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, L'école de Danse de Québec, the 2002 Québec Collegial Dance Festival, Art Harvest, among others.
Co-recipient of the Paula Citron fFIDA award for Best Choreography in 2003.
Co-founded his own dance collective, 3M Dances with Lincoln Shand and Marvin Vergara.
Chair of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists - Ontario Chapter.
2003 - now: The Chimera Project. Part of the creation process of Light Explorations of a Darker Nature (2003), You're It (2005), and Keep All Sharp Objects Out Of My Way (2006).
